Activity 7: Budgeting and fundraising

Having a budget and fundraising activities as part of an ICT Plan is necessary for sustainability of an ICT integration programme set up.

The budget is made to cover ICT facilities, ICT Curriculum, ICT Professional development, and ICT Security.

It is really hard for us right now to plan a budget since the building and infrastructure that exist belongs to ABIIT. As a result, we looked at what they have and made a budget based on that, for us to get when we have our own facilities.

It is fair for me to acknowledge our appreciation for being able to say all ICT facilities, equipment, and resources at ABIIT is also ours right now, due to their partnership.

Therefore, we will like to continue to sustaining and forge partnerships in order for the organizations and community at large assist us in any way possible.

Activity 6: Plan of Action

Knowing what have been put in place, what we are doing and what we need to do in terms of ICT is a major concern, or our plan of action.

In the department we all have devices given to us by the Ministry of Education and/or the Ministry of Information. The classrooms are all equipped with 20 desktop computers, one whiteboard, projector, printer and remote control.

We have as our own, two speaker systems, and two interactive whiteboards. Only one board though is installed.

Since the installment of the board the staff has been requesting an interactive whiteboard training. Therefore our first priority area to work on in terms of ICT training is having an in house interactive whiteboard training by yours truly and one other staff member.

We had no ICT Policy, therefore we are working on a first draft and look forward to editing it to have a complete and final Policy being implemented before the end of the year.

Activity 5: ICT and Policy

ICT and Policy
To actually have an ICT Policy written first, then implemented is a goal our department is striving to achieve. Having the Policy will guide all involved in knowing: what are the expected ICT facilities, security, responsibilities, etc. that all most keep in mind when using and integrating ICT in education.

Activity 4: Choosing Focus Areas

ICT and Security
It is important to consider all that is needed to keep an institution with ICT equipment safe. At our ABIIT location the building and infrastructure has as security a fence around the yard, security guards at the gate, emergency exit doors, fire alarms, fire extinguishers, video cameras, and now and again security checks.

In the future we want our own building with the same security measures and more.

ICT and Staff Development
All staff members:
  • have an ICT device
  • use their ICT device
  • create lesson plans using their device
  • give presentations using their device
  • receive and send emails using their device to students and staff
  • assess students using their device
  • conduct research via the internet
  • download documents, videos, music, etc.
All staff members:
  • need continuous ICT professional development
  • want an Interactive whiteboard in house training session
  • know of the importance to integrate ICT in the curriculum
  • want technical support to successfully use ICTs in their classrooms
All staff members:
  • are provided with the opportunity to do the ICDL course
  • know about the CCTI course
  • know about other opportunities to continue improving their pedagogical skills
All staff members:
  • have agreed upon having a two week interactive whiteboard session

ICTs and Curriculum
At our department teachers and students all use ICT. We are transferring from the adoptation to the integration stage of ICT. All are capable of using ICT on a basic level. There are efforts being made to integrate ICT. However, a few still hesitate to use and integrate it within the classroom.
